Ways to Improve Your Internet Speed

Are you in a hurry to do some online tasks but your slow internet prevents you from doing these things? Having a slow internet connection can prove to be a liability. A slow connection, for example, makes it difficult for you to appreciate the movies that you stream online. You will also encounter connectivity problems if you try to place a call over the internet. Fortunately, you can do something about your slow connection. Here are some tips that can help improve your internet speed:

Improve Your Internet Speed

Terminate Running Applications You do Not Need

There may be several applications running in your computer that you may not even notice because you do not have to launch them for them to work. They automatically start as soon as you open your computer.  Some of these applications may be using your bandwidth and slow down your internet speed so to ensure there are no other unnecessary applications running in your computer, check out your task manager. You may also want to adjust the settings of the programs that you have so they do not automatically start up. This will make it easier for you to run and use only the programs that you do need.

Pause Downloads

Downloading large files such as movies and audio books from the internet can slow down your connection so it is best that you download large files at night or when you do not have to use web based applications and visit websites on the internet. Should you need to browse the internet, try to check out if you have downloads and pause them to boost your connection speed.

 Update Your Web Browser

Web pages tend to load longer if you are using an outdated version of your web browser. Older and outdated browsers are often unstable and slow. This is why it is advised that you update your browser as soon as a new version is released. Outdated browsers are also more vulnerable to security attacks so computers that are using older web browsers are more prone to getting infected with viruses, spywares and other malicious programs. Be aware that malwares do not just pose security risks to your personal and financial data. They can also use up your connection’s bandwidth resulting in a slower internet access.

Remove Unused Toolbars

Toolbars can use up your computer’s memory. They also hog your bandwidth because they send and receive information in the background even if you are not actively using them so try to remove unnecessary toolbars in your browser if you want to speed up your connection. You will likely get a boost in your internet speed if you get rid of those toolbars you rarely use.

Minimize the Number of Users Accessing Your Connection

You will likely experience a slow connection if a lot of people are sharing your internet connection. If somebody is using the internet to stream movies or listen to online radio, for example, you will have difficulty placing over the internet calls. VoIP providers including RingCentral recommend their users to have fast and stable internet connection to place calls online so you will likely encounter connectivity issues if there are several people sharing your internet’s bandwidth with you. The more users accessing your internet simultaneously, the more you will experience a slower connection so try as much to reduce the number of users accessing your internet by securing it with a password. Your neighbors will not have any problem using your Wi-Fi for free if you do not secure your connection so make it harder for them to leech your wireless network by setting up a unique and hard to guess password.
